Broward Sheriff’s Office Deputy Honored for Saving Child’s Life Arrested
A Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy faces several misdemeanor petty theft charges after stealing DVDs and action figures from a Lauderdale Lakes Walmart.
Broward Sheriff’s Office public corruption unit detectives arrested Deputy Henry Guzman at approximately 11 a.m. Monday when he reported to Internal Affairs at the Public Safety Building.
The 13-year veteran was suspended with pay and transported to the Main Jail. He is expected to be suspended without pay after the State Attorney’s Office formally files the charges.
The Public Corruption Unit began investigating Guzman after receiving information that he was stealing from the Walmart store, located at 3001 N. State Road. 7 in Lauderdale Lakes.
Investigators said on three separate dates in May, Guzman entered the Walmart store while wearing his BSO uniform and stole DVDs and action figures. Walmart reported a loss of nearly $200 for the retail theft.
In 2015, the Deputy was hailed as a hero by the Tamarac City Commission for saving a child’s life.
According to the website Tamarac Talks, the incident happened on July 27, 2015 when Deputy Henry Guzman was called to the Inn Town Suites for a reported choking.
