SUSPECT BEATS ELDERLY MAN IN FRONT OF CHILD-VICTIM IN CRITICAL CONDITION

Victim: Anthony DePaul, male, 68, Dania Beach (HOSPITALIZED)

SUSPECT BEATS ELDERLY MAN IN FRONT OF CHILD-A 68-year-old man is in critical condition after being beaten on the Fourth of July outside a Walgreens in Dania Beach.

Around 7:30 p.m., the victim parks near the entrance of the Walgreens located at 202 S. Federal Highway in Dania Beach.

As the victim approaches the front door he exchanges words with a man walking in accompanied by a young boy. It appears as though the suspect tells the young boy to step to a side and proceeds to punch the elderly man several times, knocking him back onto the ground.

The suspect then flees the scene in a red/copper, two-door sedan, possibly a Pontiac. The vehicle has a sunroof and tinted windows.

Witnesses rushed over to where the victim lay unconscious and called for help. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported DePaul to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition. He suffered a broken jaw and has bleeding in the brain.

The suspect is described as a male with long dreadlocks. He’s seen on video wearing a blue shirt with jean shorts and white sneakers.

In addition to information about the suspect, detectives want to speak to the witnesses seen leaving the store at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Violent Crimes Detective Kasia Wlodarczyk at 954-321-4291. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at http://www.browardcrimestoppers.org/. Anonymous tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for a reward of up to $3,000.
