RECENT GUNFIRE IN DANIA BEACH CLAIMS LIFE OF 8-YEAR-OLD BOY

Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding four shootings that have occurred in Dania Beach since Christmas day. The most recent shooting Wednesday night claimed the life of an 8-year-old boy and sent others to the hospital.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, deputies responded to 389 Phippen-Waiters Road regarding a shooting. The adult male, who was injured after he was grazed by a bullet, was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.

 

Shortly before 7 p.m. on Monday, December 26, Regional Communications received a call that someone had been shot near 100 N.W. 8th Ave. Deputies found an adult male who was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood with no life threatening injuries. While the victim was in the area, he was approached by a suspect who tried to rob him at gunpoint. The two struggled; the suspect fired a shot that missed the victim. The victim was injured from a projectile that ricocheted off of the ground. BSO detectives arrested Gregory Sims on December 29. He faces armed robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon charges.

The first shooting occurred shortly after 8 p.m. on Christmas near Northwest Sixth Avenue and Northwest Second Street. Christopher Jordan, 25, was walking home when he was shot. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported him to Broward Health Medical Center where he died.
